| As we shared last week, one of our members had recently completed his IFO (Interior Firefighting Operations) section of the New York State Firefighter 1 Curriculum. This past weekend, he completed the last part which is Firefighter Survival. This section concentrates on self-rescue for the member. From being able to react when signs of deteriorating conditions present themselves and how to quickly act, to the actual skills of rapid egress.
In the attached pictures, Brayden is conducting a Head First Ladder Bail-out and begin his descent from an upper story deploying his Personal Escape System or “Bailout Kit”. This is the continued displaying of what our dedicated members go through during their initial training to that end goal of being classified as an interior member. To some terrifying, to others pretty cool. The extremely long and time consuming course has the safe operation in focus of the Firefighter themselves, the others on the fireground, and the reassurance they are ready to act to protect lives & property.
Also you notice in one of the pictures, of one of his instructors pictures with other members of his class. That instructor is OFD’s own Captain of Ladder 41, Sean Flood. Sean is also besides his main occupation, a New York State Fire Instructor. He had the pleasure of being part of the instructional staff for Brayden’s Class in Putnam County. Sean has instructed many OFD Members since he began his instructor role with the State. Prior to him obtaining his certs to officially work for the State of New York, he had been a Department Trainer and instrumental in our member bailout training.
