Well what can we say, it was a wet one. Another Ossining parade in the books. We can’t thank everyone enough from the spectators that held in there standing their ground and watched, to the attending agencies that marched in the pouring rain. Being soaked was an understatement, but hey it did make it a bit cooler?

Now down to the nitty gritty. Tonight’s parade was the last for our current Chief, Michael Scarduzio Jr. At the end of this year, his 2-year term as of Chief Engineer comes to an end. We are also happy we were able to assist the Westchester County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association in being able to host the Convention Parade in conjunction with ours.

Congratulations to this years Grand Marshal, Commissioner/Safety Officer John Joe D’Emidio of Ossining Hose Company No. 1. John Joe also currently serves as the Company President of Ossining Hose along with being an apparatus operator. He has been serving in our department color guard for many many years.

We’d also like to take the time to thank the Westchester County Parade Judges Association and the Tri-State Musical Judging Association for their services. Congrats to our big winners of the evening including the Cortlandt Engine Co. Of the Montrose FD on taking home Best Overall & the Joe Moore Memorial Award.

This event is an undertaking that takes many and has a plethora of moving parts. The assistance of the many services in the Village makes this all possible. Thank you to The Ossining Police Department, the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps, The Town of Ossining, New York, the The Village of Ossining, New York, the Department of Public Works, and the Ossining Recreation and Parks Department.
So, till next year Ossining. We look forward to again being a part of your summer and a continued Hometown tradition. We borrowed a few from Mike Risko Music School’s page & From Frank Becerra from LOHUD. We thank them both for the pics!

Ok folks, we are less than a week away. So here’s the info we have for our attendees. The line-up has been finalized and all participating agencies have been emailed the info. Below you will find the line-up.

Now, we did run into a few hiccups on the old snail mail side of things. A few returns did get lost in the mail. Have no fear, we got it all covered and squared away. So just incase any Department or Agency had sent back a “We are coming” return and you don’t see yourselves in the line-up, just reach out to us. Also, if any agency last minute wants to join in on the 2nd reach out as-well by Monday (7/29/24)!

Same route as you all know, kicks-off at 7pm. Spectators, get those spots on the route planned out ahead of time. Consider grabbing some dinner in town at one of our solid establishments. Route 9 will be closed on and off during the parade so plan accordingly if traveling through town between 7 and 830ish.

We look forward to next Friday, and hope you all our also!

As we “Fall-Back” today, after you change your clocks make sure to change the batteries in your smoke & carbon monoxide detectors.

Here are a. few quick tips on the use of Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors.

-A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home. Install alarms in the basement. Smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound.

-Large homes may need extra smoke alarms.

-It is best to use interconnected smoke & carbon monoxide alarms if possible. When one smoke alarm sounds they all sound.

-Test all smoke & carbon monoxide alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.

-Today’s smoke & carbon monoxide alarms will be more technologically advanced to respond to a multitude of fire conditions, yet mitigate false alarms.

-A smoke alarm should be on the ceiling or high on a wall. Keep smoke alarms away from the kitchen to reduce false alarms. They should be at least 10 feet (3 meters) from the stove.

-People who are hard-of-hearing or deaf can use special alarms. These alarms have strobe lights and bed shakers.

-Replace all smoke & carbon monoxide alarms when they are a max of 10 years old.

-Smoke alarms are an important part of a home fire escape plan.

In exactly 72 hours, our feet along with many others will hit the streets of Ossining in our annual parade! Months of preperation go into this event every year for things to go exactly as planned. Alittle chance of rain ain’t gonna scare us!

The parade kicks off at 7pm, we will be following the usual route beginning at Pleasantville Rd & Croton Ave (Roosevelt Square). Proceeding down Croton Ave, crossing over Rt.9 to Main St. We continue down Main St to Secor Rd over the train tracks past the Train Station to the Waterfront. The Reviewing Stand will be located on Main St. across from the Post Office.

Judging will be conducted by the Westchester County Parade Judges Association along the parade route. Rules can be found on the association’s website: www.wcpja.com. Shuttles will be available for parade participates/marchers picking-up at the waterfront/train station and dropping off at line-up. Shuttles begin at 5pm.

We will continue to post updates and additional information as Friday draws near.
